·         Professor Thomas will be presenting a paper at the ASEE SE Annual Conference in Chattanooga, Tennessee

·         Dr. Frank Tsui will be presenting a paper at the  American Society of Engineering Education  (ASEE)  Southeast Conference at U.T. Chattanooga

·         Dr. Kai Qian will present a joint research paper “Color Image Classification using water level model” in Visual Information Processing XIV, FL, April, 2005

·         Dr. Andy Wang and Dr. Lai Qian published a graduate Textbook “Component-Oriented Programming”, John Wiley & Son

·         Dr. Andy Wang developed a new course “Intelligent Robotics” for SPSU honors students. It will be offered in Fall 2005

·         Dr. Andy Wang will present a paper entitled "Information Security Models and Metrics" at ACM SE 2005, the 43rd Annual ACM Southeast Conference, March 2005.

·         Dr. Frank Tsui published a textbook Managing Software Projects with Jones and Bartlett Publishers, which is currently the textbook for SWE 6633 & 4663 (Software Project Management).

·         Dr. Kai Qian conducted, "Lamp: An Approach to Teaching Internet Technology by Open Source software", workshop, ACM SIGCSE.

April 2004

·         Dr. Kai Qian published a joint paper: "Water Level Model in Density based Unsupervised Classification", Proceeding of Visual Information Processing XIII.

·         Dr. Frank Tsui attended the ASEE 2004 Southeastern Section Annual Conference in Auburn, Alabama, and presented a paper: "Information Communications in Software Projects."

·         Dr. Hassan Pournaghshband attended a the Association of Management in Norfolk, VA, and presented a paper: "Financial Instrument Data Warehouse- Object-Oriented Approach."

·         Dr. Ju An Wang attended the CTE Fellow Presentation at the Center of Teaching Excellence and presented a paper: "Scholarly Teaching: What, Why, and How".

·         Prof. Barbara Thomas attended the ASEE 2004 Southeastern Section Annual Conference in Auburn, Alabama, and was the editor of both Book of Abstracts and Conference Proceedings.

May 2004

·         Dr. Frank Tsui received a $2,500 grant from Microsoft in May, 2004 to be used for putting together an IT Outsourcing Symposium on the SPSU campus, currently set for October 29, 2004.  There will be six external speakers from the industry scheduled for the symposium.  All CSE faculty and students are welcome;  there will, however, be a small Symposium attendance fee required.

·         Dr. Hassan Pournaghsband attended the 2004 IRMA International  Conference in New Orleans, LA, and presented a paper: "Financial Instrumental Business Architecture for Data Warehousing."

·         Dr. Sheryl Duggins attended the International Conference on Software Engineering: a Workshop on UML- New Version in Edinburgh Scotland.

·         Dr. Ju An Wang attended the Embedded System Development Training: Niagara Summit in Wesley Chapel, FL.

June 2004

·         SPSU Summer Game camp by Prof. Barbara Thomas and Dr. Orlando Karam for undergraduate. 

·         Dr. Sheryl Duggins attended an ABET Workshop in Salt Lake City, UT.

July 2004

·         Dr. Kai Qian published a paper, "Design Patterns for Web Services"; Proceeding of 5th SNPD 2004, pp. 342-348.

·         Dr. Kai Qian gave a seminar "From OOP to COP and SOP", at the School of Computing & Information Engineering for both Yanshan University and He Bei University of Technology in China, and is honored as the honor professor of YanShan University.


Mobile Gaming Competition

The Tapscore Mobile Gaming Competition:  CSE students are invited to participate in a mobile game competition sponsored by a local company.  Three prizes ($1,500m $700, and $500) will be awarded to top three teams in the competition.  The registration deadline is September 3, 2004 and the submission deadline is December 1, 2004.  For more details, please contact Dr. Andy Wang.

Enrollment for Fall 2004 is up!

SWE enrollment for Fall 2004 has increased by 25 percent, for both the undergraduates and graduates, compared to Fall 2003 enrollment. 

New Courses

New undergraduate course: SWE 4353 (Computer Game Design & Development) by Prof. Barbara Thomas.

New graduate course: SWE 6753 Computer Game Design & Development is developed by Dr. Ju An Wang.
